Gun Control? Someone Picked the Wrong . . .

In response to the current, “Progressive” (i.e., authoritarian) jihad against the Second-Amendment right of Americans to own and use firearms non-invasively, here is the Independent Institute’s new archive page of articles, books, and videos, “Firearms, Violence and the Second Amendment,” to arm everyone with the facts.
In addition, GLOCK Inc. has just produced three, new, superb ads featuring R. Lee “Gunny” Ermey that have gone viral:
Someone Picked the Wrong Diner:
Someone Picked the Wrong House:
Someone Picked the Wrong Girl:

A NEW view on guns and gun control.
I hear a lot of debate lately about the need for stricter gun control laws.
In light of recent tragic events, I understand why.
But guns are NOT what created these tragedies. A person or people created these tragedies.
We have lost focus on reality. That reality is that no matter how many laws or how strict you make gun laws. If a person chooses to kill, they will. And today (sadly) it is far easier to get a gun illegally than it is legally. So, maybe, instead of putting all our time, efforts, and money into laws restricting guns. Take all that time, effort, and money to find solutions to WHY a person chooses to kill without justified provocation.
Finding solutions in this, is the only way we will reduce or eliminate the tragedies we have seen lately.
God and Satan can be found in every human. It’s up to every human to choose which they will serve today.
And that choice must be made by every human every day. Because I can choose to save a life today and choose to take a life, without justified cause, tomorrow. And we all must make choices each and every day.
Remove or stop what drives a human to kill. And then, and only then, will the killing stop.
Thanks

Declaring war against the Constitution is what Obama is all about. He has been working hard on destroying the First and Second Amendments and will not stop until he has eliminated the Constitution as the basis for this government. He wants to rule by imperial Presidential edict. He will eliminate the Supreme Court if it ever declares itself to be an independent body and not his lackey. I am sorry I have to live during this era. I remember a time when no matter what party you belonged to, the Constitution was the supreme law of the land, not a group of conservative suggestions, which is what Obama says they are. God will not be mocked.

Yah, right, the President will eliminate the Supreme Court. Exactly how can he do that? Go shoot them all with assault weapons? This comment is an example of the crazy paranoia that should be enough to disqualify someone from gun ownership under the Constitutionally recognized exception in the Second Amendment for felons and the mentally ill. http://www.commongroundonguns.com The Supreme Court is still supreme over President and Congress, and its interpretation of the Constitution IS the true meaning of the Constitution, barring amendment. That is our system, in case you were sleeping in civics class.

Do we have a culture of violence? If so, would it not follow that it would be put to practice and clearly evident?

The ads would have been better if the perpetrators had been killed.

James, We disagree as the point of a weapon is for defensive use which is what happens in the ads. Indeed, the millions of incidents in which a gun owner protects himself or herself primarily occur without even firing the weapon.

I doubt any of us slept through any classes — or real life, either.
Could it be you have been asleep the entire span to this point of the 21st Century? Or maybe you are simply a paid troll.

I assume you mean “court-created” exception “to” (not “in”) the Second Amendment. You may have been awake in civics (indoctrination) class, but you clearly weren’t in reading... Even if you can’t read the Second Amendment, I can, and it does NOT say “...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, except for felons, the mentally ill, or whatever other excuses we can come up with...” And you may believe the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Constitution IS the “true” meaning of the document (because, after all “they” said so in civics class), but I doubt that even the people who wrote it would agree with you.
I doubt that you’ll read it, but for everyone else I cannot recommend too strongly L. Neil Smith’s Down With Power. If you want to learn a really strongly principled, radical libertarian approach to this, as well as many of the other disturbing issues of our day, check it out at http://www.ncc-1776.org.

To George Lenard (owner-editor of the commongroundonguns.com site, I presume),
I was not asleep in civics class, either, but I have learned much more truth about civics and the Constitution since I got out of school almost 40 years ago.
How do you know what Obama, or a future president, will do? He has shown by his own statements and deeds that he has very little reverence for the Constitution, as do most members of the ruling class.
You are aware, aren’t you, that Lincoln attempted to have the Chief Justice arrested for his opinions? The current occupant of the White House has also declared that he has the power to terminate anyone he considers a threat.
So, don’t attempt to lecture us about what people are capable of doing if given the opportunity. We only have to look, and not too closely at that, at what he is attempting to do now to understand that he is not a man to be trusted.
As to your contention that the Supreme Court is supreme over the Congress and the executive branch, well, who decided that? Oh, yeah, the Supreme Court decided that its decisions trumped everybody else’s opinions on what the Constitution means. How convenient!
I’ve got news for you – if some elected or unelected body decides what your rights are, you are a slave. That’s about where we are today. And, they don’t teach that in civics class!

Repeating firearms have been around since the Civil War (1861-1865). Semi-autos pistols 1896. (Mauser Broomhandle) So these weapons have been in existance for about a century and a half now.
The question that should be asked: “Why are we now seeing these “school shootings” when semi auto firearms have existed for over a century?
One major change is the development of “anti-depressant drugs” which are now commonly used both with adults and with children. These drugs are addictive, they also have a “rebound” effect if not taken as required. So the person suffering from the “rebound” effect of these drugs can become (sometimes, not all the time) dangerously violent for a period of time. Can this be the cause of these shootings? Has anyone checked to see what drugs these people were on when they committed their crimes? This is a question I think should be asked...
