Zora and Spike on “that Greek slut”

Spike Lee has reminded us of his longtime, and all too predictable, belief that Cleopatra was black on the occasion of Liz Taylor’s funeral. This instantly brought to mind Zora Neale Hurston’s pithy retort to similar claims by W.E.B. DuBois: “I resent his putting that Greek slut, Cleopatra, into the same race as me.”

Maybe someone close to Mr. Lee can whisper in his ear that Cleopatra had many slaves during her lifetime. I suspect that this would conflict with Lee’s rather myopic view about slavery. History is hard.

It’s true that by the time of Cleopatra, Egypt had long since been captured by the Hyksos. But it USED to be black-African. Why do you think Napoleon destroyed the face of the Sphinx?

Messianic Theonomist, The face of the Sphinx was damaged over millennia and the damage to the nose occurred in 1378 A.D., hundreds of years before Napoleon’s campaign in Egypt (1798-1801).
