Numbers to Settle Debates: Three Cool Sites
By Jonathan Bean • Saturday February 26, 2011 8:27 AM PDT • 3 Comments
For handy reference, three of my favorite sites:
http://www.usdebtclock.org/ (current data)
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/ (historical comparison are more shocking). I blogged about this site here.
And, of course,
http://www.mygovcost.org/ (Government Cost Calculator)

In my usually futile attempts to educate people about the fiscal trainwreck that awaits us, I’ll send the link to usdebtclock.org to the disbelievers. It usually shuts them up, but they rarely ever see the light and act to protect themselves.
As the economic correction plays itself out, there are going to be millions of unsuspecting victims that will be totally wiped out. It isn’t going to be pretty.

What drives me crazy are the people who talk about corporate greed when talking about the rising price of gasoline: most people in the US are not even aware that the rising price has more to do with the monetary policies of our last several, and current, administrations than with the corporate greed of oil companies. The second largest determining factor with why prices are so high is our tax system, adding anywhere from 25-40% to the price of everything.
