Stephen Halbrook with CNN’s Lou Dobbs on Gun Control

To follow up on his comments in the U.S. Senate hearings for his confirmation, Attorney General Eric Holder has recently reiterated his call for a new ban on “assault weapons.”

As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstate the ban on the sale of assault weapons.

Independent Institute Research Fellow Stephen P. Halbrook was interviewed by Lou Dobbs on CNN regarding such new threats of gun control. Dr. Halbrook, who testified against Holder’s confirmation, is the author of the bestselling Institute book, The Founders’ Second Amendment: Origins of the Right to Bear Arms. The book has formed the basis for the very timely Second Amendment Book Bomb as well as his earlier Amici Curiae Brief in the historic Supreme Court case of District of Columbia v. Heller on behalf of 55 members of the Senate, the Senate President, and 250 members of the House of Representatives.

  2. People of the USA, please take the assault on your gun freedoms very seriously, once they are gone, you will experience extreme pain, by rising crime, and assault on your other freedoms.

Trust me I have lived thru this in Africa, first it is registration then confiscation , then bloodshed.

  3. If we as free Americans do not wake up and stand up for the rights such as gun ownership given to us by those that have come before us, many paying for these rights with their very lives, then we deserve what will come. Our founding Fathers warned us of these days and the people that would user them in if we as a people became complacent. What other rights are you ready to give up? What makes you think that they will stop with your guns, next is your freedom to speak out against them. Please act now before it is to late.

I, as a born and raised USA Citizen, do firmly believe that ALL of us under the same circumstances of life here in this country have undeniable rights put down on paper called the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, the BILL OF RIGHTS! I Firmly believe that no certain INDIVIDUAL and/or group of so-called REPRESENTATIVES have any right to consider let alone propose the ideas of shredding away the fabric of our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, there are no circumstances whatsoever to attempt let alone force upon us the PEOPLE of this Hopefully still GREAT NATION. I personally disagree with the current ADMINISTRATIONS PLOYS, that they are imposing on the America PEOPLE AND MYSELF AND Family. Our Founding Fathers went through great pains through time to write down and apply to all of us such a wonderful document, I only hope and Pray that the Current Government in power Stops this insanity against Our Rights!!!!!!!!!

It’s Time to wake up America and start to call Our Representatives and send a loud message to all of them! Leave Our God Giving Rights, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights completely INTACT!

The beginning of the end of the second ammendment means the beginning of the end of the remaining bill of rights....period. America needs to wake up and learn out this.

  9. Stephen P. Halbrook and J. Neil Schulman have provided irrefutable proof that the right to bear arms is a constitutionally protected unconditional individual right. There is absolutely nothing to be found in that key document that provides government officials at any level the power to prohibit particular firearms based upon style or efficiency. If Mexican drug gangs are obtaining American firearms to commit violent acts the obvious solution is to end the costly and inane war on (some) drugs. Once again, government creates a crisis through poorly conceived legislation and then offers even more government growth and loss of freedom as the solution.

  10. If you have read some of the arguments for absolute gun control, you soon come to the realization that there is more to this than gun control. The formal arguments are not attacking the 2nd Amendment per se;they are attacking the men who wrote it. The most common argument is that the men of the 18th century could not have known how technologically advanced we would become in less than 250 years, and therefore that EVERYTHING they wrote must be critiqued, updated, or declared null and void based on today’s knowledge and hindsight.

I personally suspect that they are targeting the 2nd Amendment as the ‘weak link’, and therefore vulnerable. But the amendment that they are really after is not the 2nd; it’s the 1st. They perceive the press as having become too powerful. This last election campaign verified that. If they want to cement their power as absolute, they must ‘muzzle’ the people who are most capable of exposing them. It’s ironic in a way; the people who are helping the government take away our rights are in reality helping the government silence them.

  13. This is very true the whole purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to fight of tyranny, which is now coming about. In the war of 1812 Andrew Jackson called on inn keepers, farmers, merchants, creole Indians, and even some slaves to pick up their weapons and assist him in fighting the British. These are facts written in history. This disproves all comments and lies thrown at the people of America, that a Militia is a police force and/or army. Jackson had an army in uniform, however this army was losing the battle. Had it not been for the armed civilians he would have lost that battle. As for all those idiots in state and federal office, the American people have been owners of guns since the birth of this country. I took an oath to defend the Constitution from it’s enemies, both foreign and domestic, and I will do that even if it costs me my life. These politicians also take a similar oath, however to them that oath is just words in the air. These people are treators and enemies of this great country.

They are pushing the American people too far with this act of tyranny, which they have brought about in their effort to destroy the Constitution. They are an insult and embarrassment to all of the people that have died for this Country and the Constitution.

  15. For anyone who had no time to stay up all night after watching Holder’s comments on Lou Dobbs, I did and here you go; I wish you’d copy and send it to every member of Congress...

    Dear Representative,

This is an open letter to all elected officials and lawmakers from one patriotic American citizen to another, reminding all who would consider it, of a feeling shared by “We, The People” of the world’s greatest nation.

When we consider our own lives and those of our loved ones, the two words we cherish above most others are ‘free’ and ‘security’. It is no coincidence that both of these words were carefully chosen by our forefathers to preface a right defined in the single sentence known as the Second Amendment to The Constitution of the United States. These words were chosen by the founders in an obvious attempt to guarantee the right of freedom and security for all future generations of Americans.

Yet today, we citizens face an imminent threat to the integrity of this most fundamental right. Recently proposed legislation such as H.R. 6257, the “Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008”, would, if signed into law, erode that right and undermine our security by limiting the types of arms we may lawfully keep and bear.

We, the people, are not as ignorant as some politicians would like to believe. Attempts by certain lawmakers to classify many semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines as “assault weapons”, is based on a combination of ignorance, fear and faulty logic. We know that any weapon used by a criminal in commission of a crime is, in effect, an “assault weapon”, and so to lump all semi-automatics into this contrived category is, quite frankly, an insult to our intelligence.

We law abiding citizens fully realize the tactical advantages of semi-automatics for defense of self and family, particularly those of military design. That is a main reason why legitimate sales of this type of firearm have soared since the elapse of the last “assault weapons” ban, in 2004. To forbid law abiding citizens their right to keep and bear arms designed with capabilities such as semi-automatic operation and magazine capacities considered ‘standard’ by most in the know, would erode our sense of security as well as our ability to effectively defend ourselves, our families, and our community, if necessary.
Of course, we pray that day never comes, and so we use these weapons for sporting purposes.
In practice, though, we feel secure. As a foreign military commander once said, “If we were to invade America, we would find a rifle behind every blade of grass”. I for one, sleep better at night knowing our potential enemies share this knowledge.

We, the people, vehemently oppose any legislation which would curtail or otherwise infringe on our rights as individuals to keep and bear arms. This right was prescribed by the founding fathers as an assurance of our future freedom and security, and is guaranteed to us by The Second Amendment. We respectfully demand our rights not to be further subverted by passage of laws which are merely demonstrative, and have proven ineffective in the past.

We implore you, as our elected representative, to defend from erosion this right given to us by the founders of our great nation, a right which we hold dear, a right necessary even today to the security of our free states, and to do so diligently and immediately. The time is now; we are counting on you!

Best Regards, and God bless America, land that we love!

    Pass it on, please!

  17. Eric Holder, Obama, Schumer, Feinstein, the Clinton’s, the Kennedy’s....they won’t lose any sleep over gun ownership rights. They either have permits to carry guns or are under 24/7 armed protection at taxpayers expense. Their families are protected.

Dear God, when oh when will a reporter finally have the courage to ask Obama if he will live under the same laws that he’d impose on us?

“So Mr. President, how will this law effect your protection via the 2nd Amendment, of yourself and your family? Is it fair that American citizens are not afforded the same rights that you and your family enjoy at taxpayer expense? Does it not suggest that your administration regards the lives of Eric Holder, the President and his family and other politicians as more important than everyday American citizens? That we are somehow expendable?”

The firearms industry is not looking for a gov’t bailout. Yet this admin would add them to the list of failing businesses?

It’s the poor innocent sap who had his weapon taken away that will pay the price. Meanwhile those in power either have a permit or people protecting them. They are nothing but hypocrites. A good example of this is Rosie O’Donnell who had a body guard protecting her. Remember the police can only respond after the fact.

  25. It’s important that our civilian population be just as armed and ready as our military population, if not more so. This is the bottom line in keeping government under control. Our representatives often forget that they are the servants, and that We-The-People are the masters, and the liberals MUST be routinely reminded because of their willingness to forget. It would be nice to not always have this hanging over our head, but this is the price of freedom in the USA. Look at the countries in the EU, or look at the UK, for confirmation of what happens when the civilian population allows themselves to be controlled by the government.

  26. I served the country during the Vietnam War to protect our freedoms. Politicians only care about the high living lifestyle getting elected affords them. They will not listen to us when we tell them we are against gun control and to end their assault on the 2nd Amendment. It is not enough for them to live high on the hog at our expense. They want to pass laws to control us so they can slowly imprison us in our own country before we even know it has happened. All populations in countries with gun control have been systematically murdered. Nazi Germany, Red China, the Soviet Union, Armenians in Turkey, are just a few. If we do not have guns of any kind we cannot protect ourselves and are at the mercy of the Government “WE ELECTED”. Will the Armed Forces of the United States of America, Police Departments and National Guard Troops be ready to shoot and kill their Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, family and friends because we have guns and will not turn them in? Or will the American people go like lambs to the slaughter and give up our 2nd Amendment rights and let the government take our guns? I know that eventually some Americans will resist and fight. At that point America will no longer exist. We will have anarchy. Our society will completely break down. Prepare for it. It will come to pass. It will be like slavery all over again. If the slaves had guns they could have killed their captors. That would have been justice. All because the politicians really do not believe in freedom for all. Only for themselves. Please think about this scenario in the days ahead and listen to the reasons politicians do not want LAW ABIDING CITIZENS to have the 2nd Amendment Rights our Forefathers included In the Constitution. Why would they fear us? We are a threat to how they would control us. The only thing standing between them and us is the 2nd Amendment. It must not be taken away from us.

I’m not sure but I see scarce few of his appointees that would stand up for our 2nd amendment right. Those that managed to pay their taxes, that is.

We keep hearing the same old garbage and the gun banners don’t even have the decency or perhaps the literacy to even change the wording. Guns don’t kill people any more than a spoon made Rosie O’donnel fat. What is an “assault” weapon? 10 clip, 20 clip, 50 clip? A weapon that “looks” lethal? My boyhood single shot 22 is lethal. The trick is not to shoot anyone with it.

The biggest advantage in concealed weapons carry is not having to justify my right to carry to those who would be the first ones crying for my help. I stand for their right not to carry. I also stand for my right to do so. Vote Holder and Obama out people. 4 years is going to be a very long time. I’ve had all the “change” I can stand. Dan

  37. So it begins.
Obama and the Media refuse to acknowledge that only a little more than half of the voters voted for him. And are buying into his crap.
Which is why he is trying to get everything done in a hurry, before the American public can find out what he’s doing and protest.
Not that protesting would make any difference.
He is already trying to kill off the First Amendment (Freedom of Speech) with the “Fairness Doctrine”. Eliminating radio talk shows that speak out against the democrats and what they are doing.
The only thing protecting all of the other Amendments, is the Second Amendment.

    First: Limited firearms purchases.
    Next: Gun registration.
Then: One Million Dollar Insurance policy required per firearm.
Next: Reregister of firearms every couple of years, with a fee for each one.
Five year jail terms for every unregistered firearm.
A ban on all center fire rifle ammo, eliminating all rifle ammo except 22 and 17 caliber. Which eliminates the use of all rifles and creates a huge black market for ammo.
Next: Confiscation of all firearms, like England. Again a huge black market for firearms.

When the US govt. investigated “Ruby Ridge” and the “Waco Tx” incidents they swore that nothing like that would ever again happen to American citizens.
Well here we go again, only this time it’s millions of honest citizen gun owners.

    Food for thought:
There are 60,000,000 gun owners in the USA.
Have our unthinking leaders provided for enough prisons to house say 5,000,000 gun owners for 50 years, that have refused to register their guns ?

As a gun owner, if you own 10 unregistered guns, you can receive 50 years in jail, when caught.
This amounts to a life sentence for most people.
So which makes more sense – Go to jail for 50 years or Let them pry your gun from your cold dead hands.
Taking a lot of innocence cops and/or military personnel with you, who are only “Doing their job”

Those of us that served in the military and swore to uphold the constitution and the laws of the United States, wouldn’t attack or shoot an American citizen under these circumstances.
Even if it meant going to jail ourselves for disobeying orders.
So as a gun owner facing a life sentence, I wouldn’t have any problem killing anyone that was trying to take away my rights that I have sworn to uphold under the constitution.
Is this the ravings of some radical lunatic, Not to those of us that grew up saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and a prayer everyday in public school.

Most (not all) gun owners with multiple guns have taken the time to become accurate and can out shoot most cops or military people.
(I was an Expert riflemen in the USMC)
Swat teams excepted, but is there enough swat teams to take on 60,000,000 gun owners ?
Case in point: Several police surround a criminal, end up firing 15 or 20 rounds (bullets) and only hit the criminal once or twice, while the criminal using a 6 shot revolver hits a cop 2 or 3 times.

Sounds like the job of the future is to become a swat team member, where there will be plenty of work. Killing honest American citizens for what they believe in.

At least that many swats teams will keep the “assault weapon” gun makers in business for some years to come.

  38. You’re sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door. Half-awake, and nearly paralysed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way. With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun. You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it. In the darkness, you make out two shadows.

*One holds something that looks like a crowbar When the intruder brandishes it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire. The blast knocks both thugs to the floor. One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door and lurches outside. As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you’re in trouble. In your country, most guns were outlawed years before, and the few That are privately owned are so stringently regulated as to make them useless. Yours was never registered. Police arrive and inform you that the second burglar has died. They arrest you for First Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm. When you talk to your attorney, he tells you not to worry: authorities will probably plea the case down to manslaughter.

“What kind of sentence will I get?” you ask. “Only ten-to-twelve years,” he replies, as if that’s nothing. “Behave yourself, and you’ll be out in seven”
    *

*The next day, the shooting is the lead story in the local newspaper. Somehow, you’re portrayed as an eccentric vigilante while the two men you shot are represented as choirboys. Their friends and relatives can’t find an unkind word to say about them. Buried deep down in the article, authorities acknowledge that both “victims” have been arrested numerous times. But the next day’s headline says it all: “Lovable Rogue Son Didn’t Deserve to Die.” The thieves have been transformed from career criminals into Robin Hood-type pranksters. As the days wear on, the story takes wings. The national media picks it up, then the international media. The surviving burglar has become a folk hero.

Your attorney says the thief is preparing to sue you, and he’ll probably win. The media publishes reports that your home has been burglarized several times in the past and that you’ve been critical of local police for their lack of effort in apprehending the suspects. After the last break-in, you told your neighbour that you would be prepared next time. The District Attorney uses this to allege that you were lying in wait for the burglars.

A few months later, you go to trial. The charges haven’t been reduced, as your lawyer had so confidently predicted. When you take the stand, your anger at the injustice of it all works against you. Prosecutors paint a picture of you as a mean, vengeful man. It doesn’t take long for the jury to convict you of all charges.

The judge sentences you to life in prison.

    This case really happened.

On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk , England , killed one burglar and wounded a second. In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term.

How did it become a crime to defend one’s own life in the once great British Empire ?

It started with the Pistols Act of 1903. This seemingly reasonable law forbade selling pistols to minors or felons and established that handgun sales were to be made only to those who had a license. The Firearms Act of 1920 expanded licensing to include not only handguns but all firearms except shotguns.

Later laws passed in 1953 and 1967 outlawed the carrying of any weapon by private citizens and mandated the registration of all shotguns.

Momentum for total handgun confiscation began in earnest after the Hungerford mass shooting in 1987. Michael Ryan, a mentally disturbed Man with a Kalashnikov rifle, walked down the streets shooting everyone he saw. When the smoke cleared, 17 people were dead.

The British public, already de-sensitized by eighty years of “gun control”, demanded even tougher restrictions. (The seizure of all privately owned handguns was the objective even though Ryan used a rifle.)

Nine years later, at Dunblane , Scotland , Thomas Hamilton used a semi-automatic weapon to murder 16 children and a teacher at a public school.

For many years, the media had portrayed all gun owners as mentally unstable, or worse, criminals. Now the press had a real kook with which to beat up law-abiding gun owners. Day after day, week after week, the media gave up all pretence of objectivity and demanded a total ban on all handguns. The Dunblane Inquiry, a few months later,

Sealed the fate of the few sidearm still owned by private citizens.

During the years in which the British government incrementally took Away most gun rights, the notion that a citizen had the right to armed self-defense came to be seen as vigilantism. Authorities refused to grant gun licenses to people who were threatened, claiming that self-defense was no longer considered a reason to own a gun. Citizens who shot burglars or robbers or rapists were charged while the real criminals were released.

Indeed, after the Martin shooting, a police spokesman was quoted as saying, “We cannot have people take the law into their own hands.”

All of Martin’s neighbours had been robbed numerous times, and several elderly people were severely injured in beatings by young thugs who had no fear of the consequences Martin himself, a collector of antiques, had seen most of his collection trashed or stolen by burglars.

When the Dunblane Inquiry ended, citizens who owned handguns were given three months to turn them over to local authorities. Being good British subjects, most people obeyed the law. The few who didn’t were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn’t comply. Police later bragged that they’d taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens.

How did the authorities know who had handguns? The guns had been registered and licensed. Kinda like cars.

    Sound familiar?

WAKE UP AMERICA , THIS IS WHY OUR FOUNDING FATHERS PUT THE SECOND AMENDMENT IN OUR CONSTITUTION.

They want more government regulation on everything while at the same time trying to make us believe it’s for our own good. Wrong answer, wake up America and smell the coffee! It’s called socialism, and I didn’t fight and lose friends overseas for a bunch of socialists to take my rights as well as those of the people of this country. It’s time to stand up America and say enough is enough before it’s too late. If you are a gun owner, or just don’t like the idea of having your God-given rights stripped away from you, then speak loudly or forever hold your peace. You need to join the National Rifle Association, because there is power in numbers. We also know that in this country money talks and B.S. walks, case in point O.J Simpson’s murder trial. History repeating itself: Germany was a democracy in the 30′s, but their economy was horrid like ours is today. The German people wanted change and they got it. Boy, did they get it. Hitler. Well, we just did the same thing. The last election. Yes we wanted change and now we have it. We are not going to like the changes coming and they know it. If you paid attention to your history lessons, you know that civilizations only last around two hundred years then there is a big upheaval of some kind, usually civil war. The last phase of civilization is the warfare state and the decline of morals. Well, we are there. It opens the gates for smooth talking Tyrants as it has through out world history. People on the left and people on the right, we have our differences, but on this issue, the 2nd Amendment, we best unite, or we will both have our regrets.

  56. Charlton Heston said, “From my cold, dead hands!” I would take that a little bit further, because when I go I’ll have such a death-grip on my gun that they’ll have to cut my hand off to get it!

I served my country for over 20 years in the U.S. Army to include three years in Vietnam. I earned an Expert Marksman badge with a rifle and a Sharpshooter badge with a pistol using a borrowed weapon for the CID course. Using my own weapons, I believe I can say without bragging, I could qualify as an expert shot on any course. I could consistently put five shots inside an inch at 100 meters with my rifle and can still put 15 rounds into two inches with a pistol at self-defense distances in rapid-fire.

So, for all those who would try to take my guns, I give this warning: When I finally go down, be prepared for several of your own to go down with me, because I will NOT give them up willingly and I won’t miss if I have to resist!

  57. What we have is wannabe tyrants who have no idea what it is to be an American. Our traditional values and beliefs have been reduced to sound bites. Our NRA is portrayed as a bunch of cop-hating rednecks who have no morals. Abortion is described as “women’s health care.” Gun control is called “gun safety.” Infringements on the Second Amendment are called “Common sense gun laws.” “The People” mentioned in the Second Amendment are described as not “The People” in the other Amendments, but are instead, states. Our tax dollars are going to be used to kill babies created in petri dishes in laboratories. Our health care system will be demolished and our individual right to survive illness will be weighed against “the common good,” except for politicians and the rich, of course. The Founding Fathers are slandered as “slave owners.” Police dressed up like ninjas burst into private homes and handcuff terrified families, holding them at gunpoint on an “anonymous tip,” all in the name of “the drug war.” Cancer patients and their caregivers are imprisoned because the FDA and the DEA say their medicine, which has never caused an overdose death, is a schedule 1 drug, like heroin, which has killed many thousands. Is it because it can be grown anywhere and it works? In the six thousand years of it’s recorded use, marijuana has never caused one single death, except from police shootings.

George Orwell was in the ten ring. Now we reap the whirlwind for not being ever vigilant. Is it too late? Probably, but time will tell. Our current political situation is showing us that we need term limits in congress, just like the office of president. San Fran Nan et al. need to go! Our Constitution cannot stand under the weight of morons and infidels. God Bless America!

The only thing which has stopped Bureaucracy Gone Berserk in the past 233 years of our country’s history is enough ANGRY AMERICANS banning together with common purpose and common bond to defeat any and all efforts to take away our freedoms and our constitutional rights.

If our appointed representatives in Washington do not reflect the Will of the American People, they must be replaced, either by peaceful means, or in the case of Tyranny, by force if need be. Our founding fathers warned us that this may come to pass. . . .

My ancestor, Oliver Wolcott, along with other signers of the Declaration of Independence, put their names on the document which declared our Independence from the British Tyrants, as a new nation. In doing so, they placed everything they had on the line for our freedoms, including their homes, their properties, and their very lives.

Those of us who, like them before us, value Freedom, must be willing to commit ourselves to doing whatever it takes to insure the continuation of those freedoms . . .including our Second Amendment right to own and bear arms. That right is the only thing which stands between us as a country of Free Americans and eventual Tyranny.

Are we each and all Man enough to do whatever it takes to prevent the tyrants in Washington from taking our rights, our freedoms, and our weapons by force or political stealth???

Perhaps you are of the same mental caliber as the “representative” from Illinois, who could barely communicate, referring to guns as “piece of instrument”. What on earth is a “piece of instrument”?!?!

None of you anti-gun advocates are very bright, for even the best educated of you seem to miss the point completely: criminals DO NOT purchase guns through legal channels, and all of the restrictions on legal gun ownership that have or will be proposed will in no way curtail or even slightly diminish the illicit use of firearms by outlaws. Here’s a thought, why not punish CRIMINALS who commit crimes, and not hinder law-abiding citizens by restricting ownership of inanimate objects? After all, if you carry this strategy to its logical conclusion, you may soon find it necessary to restrict the ownership of rope, wire, knives and other kitchen utensils, clubs, baseball bats, pipe, vehicles, power tools, pillows, and anything else criminals have been known to use while committing violent crimes!

On second thought, you guys may have something here! Let’s stop locking up all the criminals and just place a ban on any object that has the potential for improper use! Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. After all, people aren’t really bad; it’s just that some of them fall in with a bad sort of implement from time to time. No more hammering of swords into plowshares for all three, hammers, swords, and plowshares, can turn on us without a moment’s notice!!!

I’ll not belabor my point any further, nor will I waste my time making my point against any of the other ridiculous arguments gun control advocates purport. I’ll merely point to such countries as England and Australia where the point has been hammered home far better than my words could ever convey, that removing lawful gun ownership not only fails to reduce violent and property crimes within a society, it actually increases their occurrence.

My fear is that the willful criminals will never be prosecuted, and those who suddenly become administrative criminals through will be harassed to the end of the earth. It is the realization that only the people of this Nation can preserve the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and the unfortunate realization that the balance of the elected representatives fail to realize that their first duty is to uphold the Constitution and then represent the people. 73. It is well settled: the Second Amendment to our Constitution applies solely to every able-bodied, law-abiding, citizen within the United States. This is precisely what the “Militia” is: the citizen soldier, the ultimate defender of our freedom, our great Nation, and the penultimate bastion against tyrannical dictatorship ever happening in our Country.

This is the intention of our Founding Fathers. Indeed, they well realized this and placed it directly after the First Amendment for good reason. Without the Second Amendment our Constitution and Bill of Rights become mere slips of paper. The Second Amendment puts teeth into our Constitutional Rights.
The erosion of our First Amendment rights, under the guise of political correctness, separation of church/state, and equality, parallels the attack on the Second Amendment.

The National Rifle Association, an association comprised of responsible, law-abiding, and productive ordinary citizens, bears the brunt of this attack.

In regards to the second amendment: when you use the term militia, citizen soldier (National Guard) referring to yourself you are confusing the meaning of the Second Amendment. It is because that the government has at its disposal the above entities as well as all the armed forces and an unlimited source of various police agencies, in the event that the gov. becomes tyrannical and tries to rule with a dictatorship, you as John Q. Public have the right to keep and bear arms to defend ourselves against such a take over of our country, whether foreign or domestic, who do you think most of the above agencies are going to be working for, you the people or the tyrannical dictatorship? So in conclusion you have a right to keep and bear arms because these agencies are necessary including any militia under its control, to preserve the peace and they are duty bound to the government. By the time most of them figure it out it will be to late.

At the beginning of the Constitution there is the Preamble. It states. “We the People.” Who were our Founding Fathers referring to when they wrote “We the People”? I take is as us, you and I? Correct?

Here is my point: if you do a search just on two words, “The People,” it appears nine times thoughout the Constitution. It appears first in the Preamble. And guess where number two is?

Yes some of you got it right. The Second Amendment. “The People” of the United States guarantee you the right to keep and bare arms. Not one elected official or a group of elected officials at any branch of government, or the President of the United States can take this right away from “Us,” “The People.” Even if the Supreme Court ruled you do not have the right, they would be in error. Only “The People” have this decision in the end. Remember that the Preamble’s first words in the Constitution, “We The People”

The Constitution is very clear about “The People.” This should not be misconstrued. Anyone who does not honor the Constitution of the United States of America is not a true American. The Constitution of the United States is what keeps us safe. I will defend it with my life and limb.

God bless “The People,” you and I of the United States of America. I thank my God every day for being alive and free in such a wonderful country.

Guns are but a tool, which were the tools at hand for the forefathers. The simple fact is this: no amount of guns could prevail against the army and weaponry of the USA today, should a rebellion occur. Assuming the rebels are not suicidal, the modern means for rebellion must be other than guns. Guns per se are futile now.
