Obama and the War on Terror

After the administration ordered a missile strike in Pakistan that killed at least several children, Vice President Biden indicates that these attacks will continue. The Democrats have long argued that Bush “neglected” Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the real war on terror should be. Obama has always said we need more troops in Afghanistan, which could make the war in that country drag on for another seven years, constituting Obama’s Vietnam. Let’s hope his domestic socialism does not blind his leftist supporters to this imperial war and occupation, and that they are at least as critical as some were of LBJ in Vietnam.

  1. Let’s hope his domestic socialism does not blind his leftist supporters to this imperial war and occupation...

It will. There is too much cognitive dissonance at work in being relentlessly critical while still attempting to remain—and be perceived to remain—enthusiastic about a landmark presidency.

  2. Anthony, a slight correction: the article you linked to deals with a missile strike in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.

In any case, the unwillingness to address the attack at any level is indicative of an Obama administration that is as cowardly as the Bush gang it replaces, for doing so would open them up to some troubling questions.

One such question would be, “How does killing and maiming civilians not result in radicalizing a population against America and undermining our security?” The media would never think to ask such a question, and political hacks like Biden would never bother to answer it.

  3. Steve, you are right. I don’t know why I sloppily wrote “Pakistan.” However, in related news, the war on Afghan civilians continues as well:

  4. I’m afraid that Obama is out to make the same mistakes as Johnson did in Vietnam. Check out my post at peoplepowergranny.blogspot.com tonight and vote in my poll regarding what you think.
